LICENSED VOCATIONAL PROGRAM
SUNRISE SCHOOL OF NURSING VOCATIONAL NURSING PROGRAM HOURS: Sunrise School of Nursing Vocational Nursing program has been approved by the Board of vocational Nursing & Psychiatric Technicians (BVNPT) and Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE) and consists of 1788 course hours: 618 theory hours and 1170 hours of skills lab and clinical practice.
PREREQUISTES: The classroom instruction is 12 months for the full-time nursing program and 18 months for the part-time program. The lab/skills clinical skills practice at the facility is at a ratio of 15:1 (Student/Instructor)

Recommendations: Students are encouraged to take basic English, Math, nutrition and human development while waiting to get into the nursing program.
VOCATIONAL NURSING PROGRAM
MATRICULATION REQUIREMENTS: Students must take English and Math (Algebra or statistics) and have a passing grade of “C” or better. Completed college courses prior to admission to the program will be considered but must be taken within 5 years of starting the program. Pre-requisites courses for the program include: Anatomy & Physiology, Pharmacology and co-requisite courses can also be taken before the program and they include Nutrition, Human Development. Students will be awarded credit if they have a current certified Nurse’s Aide (CNA) of 10 hours towards fundamentals.
ANTICIPATED ENROLLMENT
Sunrise School of Nursing anticipates to offer the Vocational Nursing Program (4) four times a year. We anticipate (15) students to be enrolled in the class for a total of (60) sixty students a year. The 3-year projection will be (150) one hundred and fifty students.
ADVANCED PLACEMENT ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION: Students may be required to pass previous semester written examination with a grade of “C” or greater and clinical course evaluation demonstrated in the skills lab at the school. Student must demonstrate competency in the clinical skills and be able to return demonstrate to the evaluation instructor course content skills. The student will be provided a list of course text books and videos upon request to prepare for the theory and skills testing.
TRANSFER CREDIT: Transfer credit for students admitted to the vocational nursing program shall be granted credit for previous completed related education within the last two years. The courses granted credit include courses received from:
A. Accredited Registered nursing courses
B. Accredited Vocational or practical nursing courses
C. Accredited Psychiatric technician courses
D. Nursing courses from Military Service
Credit awarded includes assessment policies and procedures, provisions for appeal and all charges that a student may be required to pay (5, CCR Section 71810(b)(7) and 5, CCR Section 71779.
The institution does not charge transferring and assessment fees for transfer of student’s prior earned credits to Sunrise School of Nursing from other institutions.
This institution has not entered into an articulation or transfer agreement with another college or university.
GENERAL GUIDELINES
Credit awarded for prior experiential learning shall be consistent with the program mission and educational objectives. The credit for prior experiential learning shall be granted to the student only upon the recommendation of program Director and teaching faculty in writing.
Faculty who participates in the recommendation shall be named therein and the methods for awarding credit for prior experiential learning shall abide by the policies of the institution and educational goals. Credit for prior experiential learning shall be granted after evidence of supporting documentation of learning.
Prior experience must correlate with theory relevant to the program such as text books, work books, syllabus, description of courses or competencies, demonstration of skills, competency skills examinations and achievement tests.
Credit for prior experiential learning shall be granted only for demonstrated learning outcomes and skill competencies comparable in content and skill level to those that successful students achieve by participation in our program courses and no credit will be granted to prior learning without supporting evidence as outlined prior
Prior experiential learning will be compared to the learning objectives, curriculum, and skills competencies and the program Director and qualified faculty will determine if the prior experiential learning adequately satisfies current course objectives and skill competencies. The awarded credit for extra-institutional experiential and non-credit learning shall not constitute more than 25 percent of the credits required for a degree or certificate of program except when credit is awarded for non-credit programs.
The student transcripts will identify the awarded credit source and credit will not be granted to courses given on an audit basis.
Credit awarded shall not be graded unless supporting evidence of a prior grade is evident. The institution only grants full credit and not partial credit for prior experiential learning.
Students must be enrolled in the program and are eligible to apply for credit of prior experiential learning by the first month of enrollment and must be pursuing a credential from the program.
A reasonable recording fee may be assessed by the Academic Records office to offset the cost of evaluating prior experiential learning for credit.
A publication of Instructions for students wishing to apply for prior experiential learning and non-credit and the fees to be assessed will posted and kept current by the Office of Academic Records. The award for credit policy only applies to prior earned credits for which academic credit has not been awarded.
This is a 160 hour course which trains students to provide safe, efficient, quality care to residents in Nursing Homes. The students who successfully complete the Program will qualify to take the State Competency Exam to be a Certified Nurse Assistant (C.N.A)

The student attain their training through courses which follow the State approved School Curriculum, and the Lectures are taught by accredited Licensed Nurses.
The instructors deliver the course content through lectures, demonstrations, role play in the Classroom and Skills Lab. The students are then exposed to hands on training of nursing procedures while in a Clinical Setting.
Students learn how to take Vital Signs, Activities of daily Living, Proper Body Mechanics, Bathing and Skin Checks, Bed Making , Resident positioning in Bed, and wheel/Chair, proper Transfers, Feeding, Basic Hygiene and Standard precautions.
The student's knowledge is evaluated on an ongoing basis through quizzes, competency tests, and skills tests.
The Home Health Assistant is a vital part of the team that cares for the residents in their homes, and the program helps identify the essential functions and responsibilities of the Home Health Assistant, including but not limited to:
• Interpretation of Medical and Social Needs of People being Served

Continuous educational units are courses provided by the school to meet the educational requirements for renewal of Certified Nurse Assistant and Home Health Aide Certificates as per regulations of the California Department of Public Health-Licensing and Certification department.
